🚀 Vision Statement

We’re building a test harness for David, our flagship healthcare forensics engine. David is designed to detect patterns in patient movement, anomalies, and potential fraud using structured and unstructured hospital data. To properly train and evaluate David, we need realistic, simulated hospital workflows — and that’s where our harness comes in.

🎯 What We're Building

This test harness will simulate core hospital workflows. A user performs an action (e.g., patient admission, lab order, discharge), and the system generates the relevant HL7 message for that transaction. These messages are fed into David, helping it evolve into a powerful anomaly detection and audit tool.

We’ll build this using:

  • OIE (Open Integration Engine) for HL7 message generation

  • RESTful APIs for interactions

  • A pluggable architecture to support multiple data formats: HL7, ASTM, FHIR, CCD, JSON, CSV, and more.

Once mature and bug-free, the harness will be released as a full-fledged, open source Hospital Information System (HIS) called ZOIE (pronounced Zoey).

ZOIE will include:

  • Modular design for clinical workflows

  • Plug-and-play architecture for simulation or production

  • Community contributions governed by our DOST License (David Labs Open Source Software Treaty)

🌍 Why ZOIE Matters

ZOIE enables two clear outcomes:

  1. Global HIS Adoption: We plant a seed for a modern, open source HIS that developers, institutions, and innovators can adopt, modify, and grow.

  2. 💼 David Gets Stronger: With real-world simulations, David becomes an increasingly powerful commercial offering — a forensics engine built to audit hospitals at scale.

📜 About the DOST License

Under the DOST License, we govern the interfaces and pathways — so extensions remain interoperable and stable.

You:

  • Can build your own plug-ins

  • Can sell them on our platform

  • Can offer your own customized modules

We:

  • Govern the extension points

  • Offer a marketplace to monetize your work

  • Offer a production license for enterprise use

🧠 The Core Truth: David Needs Interoperability

Interoperability is the soul of David.
Without structured simulation and real-world workflows, there is no forensic engine. David’s mission is to consume hospital data from all sources — HL7, JSON, FHIR, even CSV — and feed it to AI models that uncover fraud, inefficiency, and anomalies.

The stronger our harness, the more robust David becomes.

🛠️ Where We Are Now

We’re just starting.
We know building a world-class open source HIS is hard. But we’re not in a hurry. We’re not afraid to experiment. We will learn how to run an open source community, and we’ll grow with it.

We haven’t finalized our stack yet — but we’re leaning toward Java (OIE is Java-based) and exploring Rust for performance-heavy modules.
We have tools like Cursor IDE, Claude, Gemini, and ChatGPT. We’ll make this happen.

🧩 What to Expect

  • A plug-and-play HIS system, great for simulation, testing, and production.

  • Buy a production license from us when you're ready.

  • Build your own modules.

  • Sell them on our marketplace.

  • Or just use it to contribute back to the community.

David Labs is here to build something that lasts. ZOIE is how we get there.
